Which barcode type do I need?
Retail scanners expect a specific symbology for each use. This table shows what to enter and where each type is used.

A barcode image is not a barcode number

Frequently asked questions
Is this barcode generator really free?
Yes. There is no limit, no watermark and no account. Barcodes are rendered in your browser, so single downloads and bulk ZIPs never leave your computer. The one exception is EPS, which is converted on our server and deleted within an hour.
Which file format should I download?
SVG or EPS are vector files that print sharp at any size. Send these to your packaging or label designer. PNG is a high-resolution image, about 2,000 pixels on the long side, that works for product listings, label templates and office printing. PDF is convenient for printing directly, and JPEG suits web use.
Why does it say my number is invalid?
Each retail type expects a fixed number of digits. Enter 11 digits for UPC-A, 12 for EAN-13 or ISBN, 7 for EAN-8 and 13 for ITF-14, and the check digit is added for you. If you enter the full code including the check digit, the last digit must be correct or the barcode is rejected. Code 128 and Code 39 accept text, but Code 39 only allows capital letters, digits and a few symbols.
Can I use these barcodes on Amazon or in stores?
Only if the number itself is a legitimate UPC or EAN that belongs to your product. The generator makes an image of whatever you type. Amazon and retailers check the number, not the picture. If you need product codes, buy UPC codes and use this tool to create artwork in any format you need.
How does bulk generation work?
Switch to the Bulk tab, paste one code per line or upload a .csv or .txt file, then choose PNG or SVG and click Generate ZIP. Each file is named after its code. You can generate up to 2,000 PNG or 5,000 SVG files per batch. Invalid values are skipped and listed when the batch finishes, and the appearance settings apply to every barcode in the batch.
What size should a UPC barcode be when printed?
The nominal UPC-A size is 1.469 by 1.02 inches (37.29 by 25.91 mm) at 100% magnification, and retailers accept 80% to 200% of that. Keep the quiet zone (the blank margin on each side) clear, and never stretch the barcode in one direction only. Vector SVG or EPS files keep their proportions when resized.
Can I change the colors?
Yes, under Customize appearance. For reliable scanning keep dark bars on a light background with strong contrast. Avoid red, orange or yellow bars, since most scanners use red light and read those colors as white.
