What is an SCC-14 code?
SCC-14 (Shipping Container Code), also called GTIN-14, is a 14-digit code that identifies a carton, case or pallet of a product. Warehouses scan it to receive multi-unit shipments, and B2B ordering systems (EDI) use it to order by the case.
Do I need a UPC code first?
Yes. An SCC-14 is derived from the UPC (GTIN-12) or EAN (GTIN-13) of the product inside the carton. If you do not have a UPC yet, the $75 option includes one.
How quickly will I receive my codes?
Add-on codes for UPCs you already own are generated the moment you enter the UPCs after checkout, usually within a minute, and emailed to you. Orders that include a new UPC are assigned by our team within 1 business day.
How do I add carton codes to UPCs I already own?
Choose the $50 option, pick how many carton codes you need and check out. On the confirmation page (and in your order email) you enter the UPC inside each carton and its package level. If you bought the UPCs from us, your codes are listed for you to pick from. No need to email us.
What is the package level (indicator digit)?
The first digit of an SCC-14. It tells a warehouse which packaging of the product it is scanning: 1 for the first case configuration of a product, 2 for the next, up to 8. A case of 12 and a case of 24 of the same product are two carton codes with two different levels.
What is the difference between ITF-14 and GS1-128?
Both are barcode symbologies that encode the same SCC-14 number. ITF-14 is simple and prints well directly on corrugated cardboard. GS1-128 can carry extra data such as lot numbers or expiry dates and is common on outer cases and pallets. We provide both with your purchase.
Can I use the same SCC-14 for different package sizes?
No. Each package configuration, for example a case of 6 and a case of 12, needs its own SCC-14. The first digit, the package indicator, is what changes with the quantity.
Do SCC-14 codes expire or have renewal fees?
No. Like every code we sell, you pay once and the code is yours for life.
